Weekly Update September 19th, 2011

Theme: The themes for this week are based on the letter ‘Ii’. In Spanish ‘I’ sounds like ‘ee’ in English. ‘I’ is for:

La iguana-iguana
El insecto-insect
La invitación-invitation
La isla-island
El instrumento-instrument
El imán-magnet
El iglú-igloo
El invierno-winter
Inflar-to inflate
Inventar-to invent
Igual-same

Reading Readiness Focus:
Students will be introduced to or review the letter ‘Ii’ ‘Ii’, which in Spanish sounds like ‘ee’ in English.

? Maestra Paty’s class will introduce some of the vocabulary from above and briefly introduce the letter ‘Ii’.
? M. Dora’s class: Will identify and match capital and lower case ‘Ii’ and identify its sound.
? M. Bertha’s class: Will identify that all the vocabulary above begins with the same sound as well as identify other words that start with ‘Ii’ and will begin printing both capital and lower case ‘Ii’.

Math:
? Students will use insect counters to work on one-to-one counting and recognition of numerals.
? They will also work on the concepts of ‘igual y diferente’ (same and different).

Maestra Dora’s Class: Counting 1-10 / Recognizing 1-5
Maestra Bertha’s Class: Counting 1-15/ Recognizing 1-10

Science:
? Students will be exploring with ‘imanes’ (magnets) and ‘insectos’ (insects).
