Weekly Preschool Update for September 26th, 2011

Parents, please bring 2 cups of grapes (any kind will do) either on Wednesday or Thursday.

Theme:The theme for this week is focused on the letter ‘Uu’. ‘U’ is for:
La uva-grape
El universo-universe
El unicornio-unicorn
Uno-one
Unico-unique
La uña-fingernail
El uniciclo-unicycle
Usar-to use
Untar-to spread
Unir-to put together/unite
Usted-you (formal)

Reading Readiness Focus:
Students will focus on the letter ‘Uu’, which in Spanish sounds like ‘oo’ in English.

Maestra Paty’s classwill introduce some of the vocabulary from above and briefly introduce the letter ‘Uu’.
M. Dora’s class: Will identify and match capital and lower case ‘Uu’ and identify its sound.
M. Bertha’s class: Will identify words that begin with the ‘u” sound and will practice printing both capital and lower case ‘Uu’.

Math:

Students will sort fruit into different categories using different attributes.
Students will count with counting links for rote-memory counting and comparing.

Science and Nutrition:

Students will be ‘tasting’ different kinds of grapes and making grape juice.
Students will be drying grapes into raisins.
