My name is Rosa Maria Barcenas. I was born in Mexico City, Mexico. I have done a number of things before fully committing to working with children, when I realized that preschool is where my heart lives. Among other things I have worked with illiterate adults, helping them learn to read and write; I have worked as a cook in several restaurants, which is one of the reasons I am always asked by the teachers at Centro to cook when there are cooking projects. They say, when I cook, the children eat, and even the pickier eaters go for seconds. I also studied first aid nursing in Mexico, which might come in handy when working with active little ones. I studied Early Childhood Education at Merrit College and American College in San Francisco. What I enjoy best about working at Centro Armonia is interacting with the children and their families and teaching my native language. I have been working at Centro Armonia Preschool for 8 years. When I talk about retirement, Claudia insists that I am too young to think retirement, and that she expects me to be on staff for at least another ten years. Outside of work I have three adult children and three grandchildren. In my free time I love to dance.
